Hi, I’m Leighanna.

Bay Area tech lawyer.
Former in-house counsel for Wikipedia.
Working on my next adventure.

I’ve made my career out of arguing on the internet.

Wait, that’s not it. Arguing for the internet. There we go.

I'm a privacy and technology attorney specializing in the legal and policy questions that define how the internet handles speech, content, and responsibility. That includes difficult questions about intermediary liability, content moderation, and what platforms to owe their users and the public. Most recently, I spent a decade at the Wikimedia Foundation, where I grew from Legal Fellow to Principal Legal Counsel. For me, the most exciting legal questions are the ones nobody has ever had the opportunity to ask before.

I hold CIPP/E, CIPP/US, and CIPM certifications from IAPP, and am admitted to the California Bar.

I'm currently exploring my next chapter. If you're working on something at the intersection of law, technology, and the public good, I'd love to hear about it.
